OCMI Represents the City of Chula Vista on two Successful Progressive Design/Build Fire Stations

As part of an on-call contract with the City of Chula Vista, the OCMI team competed and won a contract to construct two new fire stations. Both fire stations constructed on a constrained site, simultaneously for a combined total of $20 million. We worked with the City’s Engineering & Capital Projects team to complete their first series of projects using progressive design/build. Due to this innovative project delivery method and a hardworking team built on transparency and collaboration, both fire stations were completed under budget. Fire Station No. 3 was ready for an on-time opening and FS No. 5 finished 7 weeks ahead of schedule.

To start our team finalized the project scope via stakeholder meetings, performed an in-depth review of the existing program documents and researched all existing facilities. OCMI performed a program level estimate for each fire station along with a complete project schedule for each.

During pre-construction OCMI developed an RFQ/RFP and supporting documents for Progressive Design/Build construction delivery. We worked with the City to advertise the project, interview prospective teams, evaluate responses, provide recommendations for award and manage the design/build firms during the preconstruction and design process. During the construction phase our Construction Manager managed both fire stations with the support of two Senior Project Engineers, one assigned to each project.
