OCMI provided Construction Management and Inspector of Record services for the Brawley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories, a Progressive Design-Build higher education and research facility developed for San Diego State University (SDSU) in Brawley, California. Working collaboratively with SDSU and the AC Martin/Sundt design-build team, OCMI supported delivery of the new facility from design and preconstruction through construction, closeout, and warranty.

The state-funded science and engineering facility provides modern instructional laboratories, research laboratories, lecture spaces, administrative offices, and collaborative environments designed to support STEM education, applied research, and partnerships between academia, industry, and public agencies. The project represents a significant investment in higher education infrastructure within Imperial County and strengthens access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs for students throughout the region.

As Construction Manager and Inspector of Record, OCMI provided construction oversight, including schedule and budget monitoring, contract administration, quality assurance, field inspections, stakeholder coordination, and review of RFIs and change orders. OCMI also coordinated testing and special inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, building codes, and University requirements.

Following the facility’s completion, OCMI remained engaged during the warranty period, serving as the University’s on-site representative to oversee warranty coordination, corrective work, and ongoing campus improvements. Through proactive project controls and construction oversight, OCMI helped San Diego State University deliver a landmark science and engineering facility that supports research, innovation, and economic development throughout California’s Imperial Valley.
