Their home away from home, SDSU’s Student Union is where students come together. It is also where OCMI delivered an award-winning project by leading a large team effort.

As part of OCMI’s construction and project management contract in support of San Diego State University’s Capital Improvement Program, our team oversaw the successful execution of its then largest and most notable project: the replacement and enlargement of the $77 million Aztec Center Student Union.

To achieve SDSU’s expectations and requirements, OCMI’s team conducted weekly strategy meetings to ensure all issues were discussed and resolved in an open forum; we provided oversight of GMP submittals; reviewed monthly billing and conducted change management services. Each of these solutions led to a successful and award-winning project.

The student-funded project provided office space for student groups as well as space for recreational activities and dining to better serve the needs of an increasing student population. The new 194,000 GSF facility includes amenities such as a fitness center, bowling alley, movie theatre, cafes, a convenience store, and others.
